You can use a clean gauze or soft washcloth to help control minor bleeding. Over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen or tylenol can be used to help with pain. Applying an ice pack to the outside of the affected area will also help with discomfort and swelling.

A pulpotomy may be necessary to treat large cavities that are approaching the nerve, and a crown is often used alongside this treatment to protect and restore the tooth.
If your child’s permanent tooth is loose or if it has been knocked out due to an oral injury, it may be splinted to the surrounding teeth to hold it in place and allow it to heal.
If your child has an infection, severe fracture, or pain, then an extraction may be the best option to treat your child’s emergency. However, this is a last resort option at Saginaw Kids Dentistry and we will only recommend this if it’s truly the best option for your child.
